World Diabetes Foundation
DSA Global Run/Walk
By taking part in our Global Diabetes Run/ Walk, everyone has the opportunity to raise awareness about the need for worldwide action. At the same time it directs attention to a low-cost physical activity and emphasizes the importance of living a healthy life style, which is a vital part of treatment for patients with diabetes and hypertension.
In South Africa approx 1 in 5 people over the age of 35 has type 2 diabetes and more than 50% of them do not even know they have it. We as South Africans have a double barrel shot gun pointing at us - an HIV and diabetes epidemic which is already neck and neck in terms of patient numbers. Yet taking into consideration that one of the many side effects of ARV’s is Diabetes. What does the future hold for us and our children? Will our already strained health system cope? Where do we start? Most importantly how can you help?
Come join us, have some fun and make a diffrence!
